During the 16 Days of Activism against Gender Based Violence the ...Out of Circle – Vojvodina organization gathered signatures for the petition calling for May 18th to be proclaimed the Day of Remembrance of Murdered Women Victims of Violence. The petition was initiated by the Women against Violence Network and the Autonomous Women’s Center and has till now been supported by numerous everyday people as well as decision makers on local and provincial levels.
We began gathering signatures on November 22nd 2016, as part of the regular session of the Gender Equality Commission in the Novi Sad City Assembly. On that occasion, in the so called Blue Hall, the Commission’s President, Mirjana Vasilic, together with other members signed the petition and noted that they plan on continuing cooperating with women’s non-governmental organizations.
Following this, the Women’s Parliamentary Network of AP Vojvodina’s Assembly in cooperation with Out of Cirlce... Vojvodina, began placing their signatures on the petition. The petition was supported by a large number of members of parliament, representatives of the Provincial Government, local bodies and media representatives. The Coordinator of the Women’s Parliamentary Network of AP Vojvodina, Stojanka Lekic, stated at this time that she will actively participate in all activities during the 16 Days of Activism against Gender Based Violence campaign.
On Wednesday, November 30th, signatures were gathered at the City Assembly in Novi Sad, and the Mayor of Novi Sad, Milos Vucevic, all members of the City Council, and members of the City Assembly, put their signatures on the petition to proclaim May 18th Day of Remembrance of Murdered Women Victims of Violence. On this occasion it was noted that violence will not be tolerated and that all Novi Sad institutions are ready to support women victims of violence.
Many citizens of Novi Sad also signed the petition at Spens, organized by ...Out of Circle – Vojvodina and SOS Women’s Center. A total of 232 signatures were gathered.
