During the 16 Days of Activism against Gender Based Violence we gathered many signatures in support of the initiative to proclaim May 18th the Day of Remembrance of Murdered Women Victims of Violence.

During the international day against violence against women, November 25th, activists of the Women against Violence Network gathered signatures in the Belgrade Municipality of Zvezdara as part of the round table discussion “From the Istanbul Convention to the Zvezdara Protocol”. The round table was attended by professionals, and experts in prevention of violence against women. It was initiated by a representative of Zvezdara’s Commission for Gender Equality, Lejla Rudzic Trifunovic. On this occasion we collected 20 signatures.

On the same day, on the initiative of Milica Todorovic from Pancevo’s Gender Equality Council, Women against Violence Network’s activists participated in a session of Pancevo’s Women’s Assembly Group. In front of the Municipality’s offices signatures were being gathered for the petition. Female members of the Municipality Assembly, passers by, as well as local media employees signed the petition – approximately 140 people signed the petition in all.

On Dragana Stevic’s, coordinator of the State Pazova Assembly’s Women Assembly Group, suggestion we organized another street action for gathering signatures in Stara Pazova as well on December 2nd. This happened just before the above said body was officially formed. We collected more than 100 signatures – from Assembly Members, as well as representatives of the local executive body. We agreed to tour smaller places around Stara Pazova during January 2017, so as to make it possible for women in those parts to sign the petition as well.
